IKA PETTE Micropipettes
SAFE LIQUID HANDLING FOR FIXED AND VARIABLE VOLUMES
Pipettes are indispensable classics in the laboratory. They are designed for the precise metering, measurement and preparation of liquid samples and thus provide an important base for many different analysis and verification processes.
The manual pipettes in the IKA PETTE range are piston lift pipettes and carry out metering in accordance with the so-called air cushion principle. An air cushion separates the sample in the attached tip of the pipette from the piston. Pressing the pipetting button causes the piston to slide downwards, pushing out some of the air. Slow release of the button now generates vacuum, and the liquid is drawn up into the tip of the pipette. Pushing the button once more causes the piston to slide downwards, pushing out the air to deposit the liquid again.
The PETTE is available in 18 different volumes, from the micro-pipette, starting at 0.1 μl up to a metering volume of 10 ml. Ten models have a fixed volume, eight are adjustable in volume. They are fully autoclavable and can thus be sterilized very easily. This ensures flawlessness, precision and safety. The color coding of the single-channel pipettes fix and vario makes quick selection of the right pipette easy. In addition, the pipettes are, of course, impact-resistant, UV resistant and chemically resistant and thus provide reliable metering.
The air cushion pipettes are always used in combination with plastic single-use pipette tips. In order to prevent cross-contamination, particularly when metering critical liquids, it is important not to touch the tips and to change them after use.
PRIZE-WINNING AND PARTICULARLY ERGONOMIC
The pipettes in the IKA PETTE range are functional and minimalistic in design and comprise of just a few individual parts that are easy to keep track of. This combination has already been honored with the German Design Award and the iF Design Award and ensures particularly robust pipettes that provide reliable metering, day after day, and which are very easy to clean.
Each pipette includes three interchangeable handles in various different shapes and materials in the delivery. They are guaranteed to sit pleasantly in the hands of right-handers, left-handers, and in both small and large hands. Minimal frictional and spring forces mean that metering is carried out ergonomically and entirely effortlessly. The multifunction button permits single-handed volume adjustment. In addition, the tip of the pipette can be ejected in any hand position, whilst the volume adjustment is securely locked whilst doing so.
ENSURING SUSTAINABLE GOOD PIPETTING RESULTS
Accuracy and reliability are the most significant aspects in pipetting. For this reason, all the pipettes in the IKA PETTE range are calibrated fully-automatically and in accordance with the standard after assembly and can be be used for a long period maintenance-free after purchase. However, you need to detect any deviations at an early stage to be able to adjust the pipette and to keep the effects of measurement errors as small as possible. You can use pipette calibration software (IPCS) to plan, execute and document your own calibration tests. The test standard DIN ENISO 8655 includes the significant requirements for self-calibration. In addition, IKA offers attractive calibration packages for all the models in the IKA PETTE range, and for pipettes from other manufacturers, on request, that fulfill the requirements of GMP, GLP and GCLP accredited laboratories, and DAkkS accredited laboratories.
PERFECT PIPETTING
Not only the equipment plays an important role in the precise metering and measurement, the user also has a great influence on the results of pipetting. Valid results can be ensured by observing certain significant points. We have summarized the most important ones for you below.
Tips:
Use the correct pipette tips to achieve optimum results. In order to prevent cross-contamination, use the pipette tips just once, or change it if different liquids are pipetted. In addition, it is important not to touch the opening in the tip of the pipette.
Ambient conditions:
Before the pipetting process, you need to make sure that the pipette, the tip of the pipette and the liquid to be pipetted are at the ambient temperature. It is also beneficial to wet the tip of the pipette with the liquid to be pipetted several times. I.e. taking up and dispensing the maximum volume.
Alignment and immersion depth:
In order to prevent volume deviations, you must ensure that the pipette is held in as vertical position as possible when taking up the medium. In addition, the tip of the pipette should be immersed in the liquid by max. 2-5 mm during aspiration.
Storage:
After using the pipette, we recommend setting it to maximum volume and placing it in a pipette mounting unit, such as the LINEA.
Visual check and cleaning:
In order to ensure long-term pipetting accuracy, the pipette should be checked, cleaned, greased, and calibrated at regular intervals.
